Commerzialbank Mattersburg: The story of Martin Pucher

The main actor in the balance sheet falsification of the Commerzialbank Mattersburg, Martin Pucher, is addressing the public for the first time – and brings some surprises. It all started in 1992 under the Raiffeisen umbrella.

Wien. Five camera teams, a dozen journalists, three meeting rooms – there was a lot going on last Wednesday in Himmelpfortgasse in Vienna’s first district. Hardly surprising, as it was about the dominant economic topic of the past few weeks: Commerzialbank Mattersburg.

Martin Pucher’s lawyer, Norbert Wess, invited the media representatives one after another to come to WKK Law. For nine hours he answered journalists’ questions and told how the falsification of the accounts, which had lasted for almost three decades, happened from his client’s point of view. Pucher, ex-Commerzialbank boss, is addressing the public for the first time since the banking scandal broke out in mid-July. He has been cooperating with the authorities since his voluntary disclosure. With Wess, he has an experienced expert in white-collar crime on his side: He also represents Karl-Heinz Grasser in the Buwog affair.
