Commerzialbank Mattersburg: The role of the owner and the state

Did the main shareholder of the commercial bank Mattersburg know about the fraud and should the Burgenland have examined it more closely?

The more deeply you deal with the banking scandal at the commercial bank Mattersburg, the more opaque the balance sheet falsification, which has lasted for at least a decade. But a quick look at the commercial register is enough – and you’ve already lost the thread: “Personal credit and commercial credit brokerage and share management cooperative Schattendorf-Zemendorf-Stöttera-Krensdorf-Hirm-Loipersbach-D raßburg-Baumgarten registered cooperative with limited liability”.

That is the name of the cooperative, which owns 79 percent of the shares in the Commerzialbank. It was founded in 1929 and, over time, merged with other Raiffeisen cooperatives before the former bank boss and main actor in the scandal, Martin Pucher, separated it from the gable cruiser kingdom in 1995 together with the bank. Most recently, the cooperative had around 3000 members with approximately 56,000 cooperative shares.
