Colomiers. High school: the mascot who denounces inequalities

Koba, is a plush cowhide, born last January at the Lycée Victor Hugo. It is the result of a joint reflection between the students of Economic and Social terminal (TES2). This mascot, taken turns by each student, keeps a logbook on which the inequalities are illustrated, denounced. The whole class has joined the project, which continues, especially as lessons in high school have not yet resumed.

“The idea was born following a sociology course on social stratification and on inequalities between individuals,” explains Pierre. “After many discussions in the classroom, it was a shared adventure which seemed very interesting to us to realize.”

To illustrate the inequalities and for more visibility, the logbook has been replaced by an Instagram page.

“We talk about the differences that we are likely to encounter,” continues Margot. “There is a desire in this project to go beyond our personal situation. We try to account for all the inequalities.”

The students, from their very diverse profiles, made it a force that appeals. In this way, the white and red cow alerts as many people as possible in an attempt to make a difference.

“Beyond warning, there is the will to react.” adds Margot. “This is why we are active on social networks. We want to reach a large audience, to raise awareness.”

The mascot also talks about solutions provided, such as the distribution of laptops to students, by the Occitania region.

As the current context accentuates the differences, confinement has also made it possible to create new solidarity initiatives.

“We are orienting our project according to the news of course,” said Damien. “Like the actions carried out by the association” Main Tendue “, which helps the homeless in Toulouse and for which the school is active. We also took action to give a smile to the elderly at the Ronsard residence, close from high school, writing to them during confinement. ” More than denouncing, Koba acts and wants to show all the possible bridges to limit inequalities as much as possible.
