In the wake of his major success at Les Herbiers (3-1) which broke a long negative spiral, Colomiers had to settle for a point at home against Montpellier (1-1), another direct competitor in the race to maintenance. After opening the scoring quickly through Castaing, the Columérins had yet found themselves in an ideal configuration. “We are stronger when we defend low. The game plan was therefore to remain solid and to sting on the counterattacks”, explains Patrice Maurel. A plan that went off without a hitch until the 83rd minute of play and a magnificent free kick from Guermouche punctuated a particularly “choppy and neutral” second act.
Important but not decisive
If the Columérins (13th) could have hoped for better, this result nevertheless allowed them to maintain a gap of seven points with the Héraultais (15th), while remaining just above the red zone thanks to a better goal difference. than Chamalières (16th), first relegated. An opponent that the Columérins will precisely challenge tomorrow for an important but not yet decisive opposition according to the USC coach: “The road is long, there are a lot of matches left and the championship is very homogeneous since everyone can hang everything the world”.
If Chamalières remains on four matches without a win, Patrice Maurel prefers as usual to focus on his group: “We must above all remain focused on what we are able to do together. We must stay in line with what we has been offering for some time, even if we haven’t often been rewarded, in particular because of many game facts.”
A victory or a draw would thus allow the Columérins to pass the mini-truce outside the red zone, before receiving a large caliber: Andrézieux (4th).
