Colomiers. 32 young people sit on the CMJ and CME

The city of Colomiers created the municipal youth council (CMJ) in 1996 in order to respond to the concerns of local youth and improve their living environment. The young elected officials, in class from 6th to 4th, thus have the opportunity to carry out their own actions and to learn about the exercise of citizenship. Elections for new members of the CMJ took place last January at the same time as those for the new children’s municipal council (CME) made up of students from CM1 and CM2. The duration of the mandates for the young people elected from these two formations is two years. Their composition is identical: 8 girls and 8 boys. During their mandate, they will attend three plenary meetings chaired by the mayor of Colomiers or her representative and eight ordinary meetings. In small groups, they will meet in commissions every fortnight (except during school holidays). In addition, they will be required to participate in certain events.

First general assembly

On February 15, the thirty-two newly elected young people were invited to a general meeting in the municipal council chambers. The opportunity for the previous team to present the results of their mandate. While some took part in a guided tour of the Hôtel de Ville, the others chatted among themselves. Thus, the oldest were keen to answer the questions of the new elected officials, in particular those of the youngest, who were a little intimidated and very impressed by the place.
