“Colombian Livestock Farmers Embrace Virtual Vaccination Programming for Greater Efficiency”

From the next vaccination cycle against foot-and-mouth disease —which will be carried out for 45 uninterrupted days between June 5 and July 19—, vaccination programming will be carried out completely virtually throughout the Colombian territory.

This was announced by José De Silvestri, technical manager of the Colombian Federation of Livestock Farmers (Fedegán) – National Livestock Fund (FNG) and leader of the cycle at the national level.

The virtual programming allows greater efficiency in terms of time management and processes.

“This virtual programming system has been successfully applied as a pilot test on two concurrent occasions: the first, in 40 of the 90 local projects during the second vaccination cycle against foot-and-mouth disease in 2022, and the second, in 40 percent of the additional cycle against FA that was carried out in the border departments with Venezuela at the beginning of 2023”, he stressed.

Virtual programming is another component of the digital transformation of vaccination cycles that has been applied even before the start of the pandemic in 2019 with mobile capture devices, an instrument that precisely allows the processing of data in real time from the same farm and at the moment in which bovine vaccination is carried out and buffaloes.

“Now the purpose is to implement the use of technologies in such a way that farmers receive notification of the vaccination date on their cell phones or email more effectively,” he explained.

Programming step by step

Normally and routinely, vaccination was scheduled in two ways: firstly, through printed notices that Fedegán placed in representative sites of the area to be vaccinated, and secondly, the scheduler communicated with the farmer by telephone and scheduled the respective appointment.

In the vaccination cycle against foot-and-mouth disease, brucellosis and rabies of wild origin that will begin in 24 days, approved by the ICA through resolution No. 04003 of April 14, 2023, Fedegán, as the executing entity of this, will apply 4 fundamental steps in the programming process with the farmers, which are listed below:

The farmer will receive the automatic BOT call made by the SINIGÁN-SAGARI system, the latter is the informative and statistical compendium of farms and bovine and buffalo animals throughout the country.

The producer must be aware of the call, answer and listen carefully to the message with a robot voice that will tell him the following: “Señor rancher Fedegán-FNG informs you that in the next few days the vaccination visit will be carried out on your farm, enter 1 to receive detailed information via text message or email or enter 2 if this information is not for you .”

The person must mark option 1 to confirm the vaccination visit and, immediately, will receive by SMS and/or email the respective access to the document of the action to be carried out, that is, the Property Vaccination Schedule format. Livestock, PVPP duly completed.

Subsequently, the farmer will also receive an automatic call Robot (BOT), one day before the vaccination appointment, which will remind him of that commitment for the following day and will inform him that the vaccinator will indeed attend to carry out the obligation to vaccinate the animals. cattle or buffaloes on your property. animal preparation

“In this process it is essential to follow the recommendations of the case in the sense of preparing the animals both in terms of health -not applying any vaccine in the 30 days prior to the official vaccination-, and physical -collecting all the animals in the respective pen on day scheduled for inoculation,” said José De Silvestri, technical manager of Fedegán-FNG.
