Colombia team cancels matches and practices in Europe in September | Latest News Today | Colombia selection

Despite the fact that the coronavirus has suspended the start of the South American Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the Copa América, Carlos Queiroz has been working virtually to develop his work plan with the Colombian National Team. He even had plans to train with the players he has available in Europe; but all the plans and ideas fell apart.

What happened? Due to the difficulties in bringing the team together due to the pandemic, the Colombian Soccer Federation announced that any type of concentration or camp planned for September was canceled.

Queiroz had in his head playing two friendly matches next month. If these encounters could not be managed, the option of holding a training camp would be sought. However, there are several aspects that prevent a concentration from being carried out:

– Difficulty moving players from one country to another.

– Impossibility of transporting players and / or coaching staff from South America to Europe.

– The September date overlaps the pre-season and preparation period for almost all players, who have played in totally atypical seasons.

– Leagues and competitions in South America are projected to start in September.

– The September FIFA date was moved to January 2022.

After analyzing these logistical and technical aspects, it was decided to cancel the plans that were advanced for September.

Thus, Queiroz and his team of collaborators will focus on training and strategic plans for October, the month in which Conmebol plans to start the Qualifiers.
