In parallel to the Euro will be played the Copa America 2021. But less than a month from the kickoff, Colombia, co-host country, has been ruled out.
Thunderclap this Thursday in South America: Colombia, co-organizer with Argentina of the Copa America and where 13 matches of the South American continental competition were to take place, was removed from its role of host, to less than a month from kick-off. This is what CONMEBOL announced via a press release, specifying that the new location of the 15 meetings planned in Colombia will be revealed in the coming days.
The Colombian sports ministry had demanded earlier that the tournament be postponed in order to be able to welcome the public, which is impossible in the current sanitary conditions of the two organizing countries. CONMEBOL has visibly ruled, basing its decision on the riots that have swept through Colombia since April 28 and which have left around 40 dead. Several South American Continental Cup games had already been moved.
