cod has unclear information according to a reader

On the packaging of packaged foods it is mandatory to affix the nutritional table for 100 grams (or milliliters) of product. However, sometimes companies decide to insert another table referring to the portion or unit, for example a biscuit. Below we publish the report of a reader about the unclear nutritional table of a Findus product and to follow the company’s response.

I bought a pack of Findus cod after checking the nutritional label for 100 grams of product; being compatible with the composition of the cod I trusted. At home, however, I realized the inconsistency between the portion of 100 grams and the portion of 130 grams … All good for carbohydrates and proteins while in proportion the fats are more than sixfold and the energy intake is doubled !!! Will it be the fault of the preparation in the pan? It does not seem since for safety I have also checked on the site the indications for 130 grams refer to cooking in the oven, and therefore without added fats … (see attachments) And I thought I was eating blue fish!

The nutritional values for 130 g of product refer to the preparation in a pan with a tablespoon of oil

Below is the company’s response.

The technical reason behind the difference between nutritional values is to be found in the fact that the table concerning 100g of product refers to the nutritional values of the product before preparation, while the nutritional values on 130 grams of product (one portion) refer, as indicated on the pack and on the site, to the first recommended preparation method, or in a pan, which involves adding half a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil per serving

In fact, on the pack, in addition to the nutritional values per 100g, Findus also indicates the nutritional values relating to the portion of the product prepared according to the first recommended cooking method.

The misunderstanding was caused by an incorrect indication on the site: under the nutritional table referring to the preparation in the pan the words “cooking in the oven” had been incorrectly reported, which we promptly proceeded to to correct.
Hoping to have clarified all your doubts, we remain available for further information.
