The pressure and expectations were high on the part of HSC 2000 Coburg before this game. And Brian Ankersen’s team made it clear from the first second that the winner of this game can only be called HSC. The yellow-blacks started like firefighters, acted attentively and uncompromisingly in defense and this time also rewarded themselves in attack for the numerous ball wins. The 6:0 lead for Coburg forced the guest coach to take the first time-out after just under seven minutes. However, not much changed at first. The HSC remained the dominant team defensively and offensively, acted very concentrated and also had outstanding support in Jan Kulhanek. In the first half alone, the Czech made 11 saves and a rate of almost 48 percent. However, since the guests never gave up despite being clearly behind, they slowly found their way back into the game and reduced the 10-goal deficit to 12:19 by the break.
For the second half, the Rostockers had decided to reduce the gap goal by goal, which they initially did well. In the feeling of clear leadership, the HSC had now shifted down a gear and afforded a whole series of unfocused actions. Suddenly, after 45 minutes, the Baltic Sea townsfolk had closed the gap again to 23:26. But there was another jolt through the boys around the goal-hungry Florian Billek. The HSC picked up the pace again, showed the necessary determination in defense and acted in front of the opposing goal with the appropriate move. Just six minutes later, Felix Dettenthaler, who was very accurate this time, had successfully converted a counterattack to 30:24 and finally set the course for a deserved home win.
