As a token of appreciation for the efforts in the corona crisis, last year, at the insistence of the House of Representatives, a bonus for health personnel of 1000 euros was awarded up to a certain income level. The number of applications received for this was much higher than the government had expected. As a result, the budget for the bonus was well exceeded last year.
A bonus of 500 euros has been booked for this year, but Minister Tamara van Ark (Medical Care) issued a profit warning last week: if 500 euros are maintained, there will only be enough budget to keep people in the ‘front line’ of the reward corona care. If all healthcare workers were to receive a bonus, it would be a lot lower: between 200 and 240 euros. A bonus of 500 euros for everyone in healthcare would cost 765 million euros more than budgeted.
