Study: Requested rents will increase by a good four percent

According to a new analysis, asking rents in Hesse have recently increased less than the national average. In the third quarter, they increased by an average of 4.3% compared to the same period last year, according to data from the German Economic Institute (IW). The national average was then plus 5.8 percent. With an increase of 4.3 percent, Hesse was one of the non-urban states with the lowest surcharges, together with Saxony and Baden-Württemberg.

Across Germany, rent growth accelerated again in the third quarter after a phase of relatively moderate increases, as can be seen from the data. “It shows that momentum is building,” said IW real estate expert Michael Voigtländer. People were increasingly looking for rental accommodation, while some landlords were demanding higher rents, apparently due to high inflation. Asked rents don’t mean business yet, but they indicate the direction of the market.
