Coach Luis Castro discusses Botafogo contract and winning mentality in football

Coach of the leader of the Brazilian Championship, Luis Castro have a contract with Botafogo until December of this year. With his strong name in the market, the Portuguese player was recently considered for Everton, in England. On vacation in Portugal, Castro participated in the podcast “FutCast”, from “FlashScore Brasil”, and was asked about a possible renewal, replying that he has not yet been contacted.

“Nobody’s talked to me about it yet. It’s not something I worry about. I don’t know, I have no idea. It’s not part of my concerns now. I respect the organization chart of the club a lot, I am a simple employee of the club that develops the work for which I was called. I look very pragmatically at football. I carry a lot of ambition with me. A winning club wants a winning mentality. “Ah, when you lose you don’t say that”. I always say, players know I say I always want a winning mentality. Even in defeats, in difficult moments – replied Castro, continuing:

– This mentality takes root not only when you win. We beat Athletico-PR, then we were eliminated. We went to Quito and tied. We went to Baixada and lost. If we didn’t have that winning mentality, we wouldn’t have beaten Fortaleza. We win because we carry a winning mentality even in the most difficult moments. Why do people overcome illnesses at very difficult times in their lives? The body wants to defeat it, but the mind won’t let it defeat. That mentality doesn’t just apply in those moments, it also carries over to football. The problem is not defeat, defeat is part of it. The big issue in football is to ingrain the winning mentality and many times we don’t see that. We lost, we’re going to lose the next game why? We will work to try to win. We won, let’s win the next one why? On the other side is a team that wants exactly what we do. There is no easy game in the Brasileirão. None.

Luís Castro was also asked if he hears proposals while he is employed at the club and went off on a tangent.

– There are clauses in my contract that provide for my departure at any time from the club and there are clauses in my contract that provide for me to be fired at any time from the club. I always made my contracts valid for both sides. If I don’t agree with a lot of things that are going on, I request my departure. If I agree with everything, I’m at peace and I’m subject to continue, that’s it. All clear as crystal,” he replied.
