CNDH urgently needs to guarantee supply of medicines

Mexico City.-The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) urged the Ministry of Health to guarantee the supply and availability of oncological medicines essential for the treatment of chemotherapies.

In that sense, the CNDH asked the Ssa to provide a comprehensive and effective response to the demands of the families of children and adolescents suffering from various types of cancer.

The above after last Tuesday, relatives of cancer patients rose from the dialogue with authorities because they refused to show them the acquired medicines.

“The mothers and fathers said that, although the authorities affirm that they have made purchases of medicines that have been distributed in some states of the country, nosocomios do not have substances such as methotrexate, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide, bleomycin, among others, putting hundreds of girls, boys and adolescents at risk of relapse, decrease the effectiveness of their treatments or lose their lives, “said the agency.

The Commission stated that the protection of the health of minors does not admit any delay.

“Its non-compliance cannot be justified in making adjustments and changes in the policies or operation of the health units, since, as guarantors of human rights, the authorities had to establish a mechanism to guarantee continuity in the provision of services and the availability of medications, “he said.

He also called on the agency to make a comprehensive diagnosis to determine the scope and impact of the situation of drug shortages and identify the people, states and health units affected.

He urged the Ssa to provide the society with clear and detailed information on the progress in the processes of acquisition of medicines and their delivery in the medical units of the country, as well as carrying out coordination actions with the state governments to solve the problem and attend all the nonconformities and reports of lack of medicines and supplies.

The agency said it will continue to accompany the affected people and take the actions that empower it to investigate human rights violations.
