CNDH calls the Health Sector to comply with the delivery of medicines against HIV – Policy

Mexico City. The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) urgently requested the different public health institutions to carry out laboratory and cabinet studies of people living with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), in addition to timely delivery of drugs across the country.

In a statement, the public body indicated that on August 13, people living with HIV, human rights defenders and civil society organizations presented, in a collective action before the CNDH, 21 complaints against the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), 14 against the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) and other public health institutions.

The foregoing, due to the insufficient units to receive medical attention due to the reconversion of hospitals to care for Covid-19 patients and the lack of application of laboratory and cabinet studies for more than six months, and even since several people began your antiretroviral treatment.

In the complaint briefs, they also denounced a shortage of health personnel, lack of telephone assistance, irregularities in the supply of medicines and problems in receiving mental health care, emphasizing that this situation has intensified in the context of the contingency. health due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They also pointed out that public health institutions have failed to comply with the provisions of the Antiretroviral Management Guide for People with HIV, which establishes that any change in the antiretroviral scheme must be made with the informed consent of the person entitled and authorized by the treating physician.

“Even though the pandemic caused by Covid-19 has imposed another dynamic in the care of health problems, the CNDH considers that the Mexican State and its health institutions must comply with their commitments on human rights, especially with people who are living with HIV, ”the statement said.

Similarly, the agency stressed that the complaints presented should not give rise to reprisals against the rightful persons “and much less violate the confidentiality of their health condition.”
