Clement gives 2 HR and La Tribu wins in Detroit

DETROIT – Rookie Ernie Clement hit the first two home runs of his career and the Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 7-4 on Friday night, for whom Miguel Cabrera followed a home run from reaching 500.

Cabrera went 4-0, remaining in 499 career homers, to the disappointment of 22,107 fans eager to cheer him on. Most of those fans crowded into the Comerica Park outfield bleachers, hoping to catch the milestone ball.

The Venezuelan hit a home run Wednesday in Baltimore and was absent from Thursday’s game against the Orioles. The Tigers then returned to Detroit to open a six-game stint.

Yu Chang hit a home run and a triple for Cleveland, which improved to 11-5 against Detroit this season.

Zach Plesac (7-4) allowed two touchdowns and five hits in seven innings. He struck out eight and did not walk away.

Tyler Alexander (2-2) allowed four runs in five acts.

For the Indians, the Dominicans Amed Rosario 5-1 with an RBI, José Ramírez 4-1, Franmil Reyes 2-0. Colombian Oscar Mercado 5-0 with one scored.
