Claudia de Breij is happily back on stage after being at home for a long time with a “small midlife crisis”. The 48-year-old comedian dares to enjoy her success again.

“I have always suffered from imposter syndrome. I thought: there comes a time when people realize that you are just doing something,” De Breij says on Saturday. The Telegraph. “But it was precisely because of that break that I suddenly realized that that is nonsense. The halls have been full for quite some time now, I have organized three New Year’s Eve conferences that I am very proud of. Suddenly I wondered why I don’t dare to do much more of that success. to enjoy.”

De Breij was at home for almost a year. Although it was difficult to relax at first, she managed to do so thanks to advice from Janny van der Heijden. She started baking bread. “It was so cathartic. If the dough fails, you can throw it away and start over. It didn’t matter if things kept going wrong, because we have three great bakers within walking distance. There was no pressure on me at all.”

With the relaxation also came the realization that she was enjoying her work on stage again. Her new performance is coming soon What if premiered. “I have now reached a point where I can say: I think this is fun, do what you want with it. If that means that this performance is not for you, then so be it. An artist does not have to tell you how you thinks the world works, but can take you through two hours in a different perspective. That realization has helped me regain my joy in playing.”
