Claire Byrne has withdrawn her name from consideration for the prestigious role of presenter of RTÉ’s Late Late Show, a decision that has created a major headache for the broadcaster as she was seen as the clear favourite to replace outgoing host Ryan Tubridy. While RTÉ reportedly favours having a woman as the show’s permanent host for the first time, Byrne cited her young family and her love of her daily radio programme as the key reasons for her decision. Other names being linked to the role include Brendan O’Connor, Tommy Tiernan, Sarah McInerney and Patrick Kielty.
