He Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) weaves alliances and disputes territories with rival criminal organizations throughout the country, from Baja California to Quintana Roo.

It can be considered as the criminal group with the largest presence in the country, since its areas of influence span both borders, as well as the coasts of Jasso, Nayarit, Colima, the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, in Michoacán and Veracruz, according with security reports from the states themselves.

Its main activities are drug traffic, drug dealing and arms trafficking; activities that have extended to the United States, Central and South America, as well as to a part of Europe.

He is also identified as being responsible for some of the largest killings recorded in recent years.

In 2013 the CJNG broke its alliance with the Sinaloa Cartel, which he displaced from Jalisco to become the hegemonic criminal group in that entity along with Colima and Nayarit.

On May 1, 2015, this cartel shot down in the municipality of Villa Purificación, in Jalisco, a helicopter of the Mexican Air Force in which an elite group was traveling whose mission was to catch the leader of the criminal group, Nemesio Osegera Cervantes, “El Mencho” In addition to the attack on the aircraft, the cartel coordinated a series of narco-blocks at various points in the entity and in the states of Colima, Nayarit, Guanajuato and Michoacán.

According to the authorities of the last state administration, in March 2017 a rupture occurred inside the cartel, which gave rise to another criminal group calling itself Nueva Plaza, which has attempted to dispute territory with the CJNG, especially in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, thereby intensifying violence in the entity.

In February of this year, the United States government linked the former governor of Nayarit, Roberto Sandoval, with this criminal group and accused him of receiving bribes in exchange for protection and information.

Furthermore, it is speculated that whoever was his prosecutor, Édgar Veytia – sentenced in the United States to 20 years in prison for trafficking drugs for the H2 Cartel – also gave protection to the CJNG in Nayarit.

The group also has a presence in the north central part of the country, mainly in Zacatecas, where it reinforced its power with a local alliance with the Gulf Cartel that has allowed it to face the Sinaloa Cartel, and San Luis Potosí, where the operation is reported. of at least six cells, mainly on the border with Guanajuato

In its 2019 annual report, the DEA reports not only the presence of Jalisco Nueva Generación in Baja California, but also considers it as one of the two criminal groups that the Tijuana-San Diego drug broker controls.

In Baja California Sur, the wave of violence unleashed in 2015 was attributed to divisions within the Sinaloa Cartel and the eruption of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. 2017 was the year considered the most violent with nearly 800 intentional homicides, the result of these struggles, according to authorities then recognized. Currently, although the violence has decreased, security sources reported that CJNG cells operate, mainly in Los Cabos.

In Michoacán, the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel was empowered in 2014, when the self-defense groups extinguished the Los Caballeros Templarios Cartel.

Then “El Mencho” spread its cells throughout different municipalities of Michoacán, especially Tierra Caliente, Sierra and Sierra-Costa.

On October 31, 2019, an armed group from the CJNG attempted to break into the municipality of Tepalcatepec, resulting in the death of nine of his assassins and 11 more were abandoned and injured.

On October 14, also last year, another command in the service of the CJNG ambushed state police in Aguililla and murdered 14.

Until now, in Michoacán, the CJNG has not only lost battles and lieutenants, but is increasingly withdrawing to Jalisco.

In Veracruz, after a fierce fight against Los Zetas, the CJNG achieved control of organized crime in the entity, mainly the center and south of the entity, where they have made their presence felt with blood.

Among the most violent acts he has left in the entity, two stand out: the attack on Good Friday in Minatitlán, in April 2019, when 13 people who were at a private party were killed, including a one-year-old baby.

In 2016 they announced their entry to the border area between Veracruz and Oaxaca. In March of this year, the capture of Elías “N”, alias ‘El Ingeniero’, alleged leader of the CJNG, was announced in the region.

In Morelos, according to the State Security Commission, the CJNG has a greater criminal presence directly or through its cells distributed in the central, northern and eastern areas of the state.

Its strategic ally is Francisco Javier Rodríguez, alias “El Señorón”, to whom the State Attorney General’s Office attributes the rise in crime in the entity, and who would have been appointed to take the place of Raymundo Isidro Castro Salgado, “El Ray” , considered by state and federal authorities to be the leader of the CJNG in Morelos, until his arrest in May 2019 and his subsequent murder in prison in October of the same year.

In Guerrero, in December 2019, with a video broadcast on social networks in which men with long weapons were seen, they announced their arrival at the entity. Days later, in another video, a caravan of about 50 trucks was seen entering a town in the municipality of Coyuca de Catalán, in the Tierra Caliente region.

The armed men claimed to be members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and their objective was to displace the criminal organization La Familia Michoacana.

From December to March in the municipalities of Zirandaro and Coyuca de Catalán there were dozens of clashes between The Michoacan Family and the CJNG, which have left dozens of murders, disappearances and displacements.

According to the Guerrero Public Security Secretariat, the CJNG has a presence in Acapulco, municipalities of the Costa Grande and Tierra Caliente.

Its presence in Quintana Roo, particularly in the Cancun – Playa del Carmen corridor, has been reflected in the increase in violence. On March 2, 10 alleged members of this cartel were captured in Cancun, in possession of weapons and drugs.
