Civil aircraft: customers cancel 150 Boeing Max in March

Miserable March for the American aircraft manufacturer. Customers ordered 31 planes from Boeing. But at the same time there were lots of cancellations.

At first glance, March was not a bad month for Boeing. The American manufacturer received 31 new orders. However, the majority of these are military aircraft. The United States ordered eight, South Korea six and New Zealand four Boeing P-8 Poseidon. It is a variant of the 737-800, which is primarily used as a sea reconnaissance and submarine fighter plane.

Boeing also sold civil aircraft in March. Fedex Express ordered another Boeing 767-300 ER. In addition, the order announced in February by ANA All Nippon Airways for eleven 787-10 and one 787-9 was recorded in the books. However, it appears to have been reduced by three 787-9s since then. Boeing delivered 20 military and civil aviators in March.

Deep in the minus

But the hardest news is below in the order overview. Boeing customers canceled no fewer than 150 Boeing 737 Maxs in March. They include Avolon (75 jets) and Gol (34 jets). There were 41 cancellations in February. Apparently, the corona crisis is causing leasing companies and airlines to increasingly do away with 737 Max, which they had ordered in good times.

All in all, Boeing had minus 147 net orders at the end of March. If you also add the insecure orders, the minus is even 307 net orders. Arch-rival Airbus stands at plus 290 net orders. Both aircraft manufacturers can expect further cancellations in the coming months due to the crisis.
