City of Chambly Expands Eligibility Criteria for Business Assistance Program for Economic Recovery

The City of Chambly is expanding the eligibility criteria for its business assistance program for economic recovery, which is in its final year.

The objective is to make the Program accessible to a greater number of merchants in the territory. They are also invited to submit a grant application now.

This program, which has an overall budget envelope of $300,000, is intended for businesses operating in the restaurant, retail, accommodation, amusement, recreational tourism or entertainment sectors. With the recent rule change, personal service businesses, business service businesses, professional service businesses, and regional businesses are now also eligible.

To be eligible, a business must have suffered a loss of revenue of at least 15% of its turnover or net profit between the years 2019 and 2020 or between the years 2020 and 2021. A business having opened its doors between 2019 and 2021 is now eligible, if it meets the other criteria.

Eligible work

The subsidies granted enable businesses to increase their visibility, attractiveness and customer traffic by improving the layout of business premises. They aim to encourage investment in innovative and sustainable initiatives, such as the purchase of reusable or returnable containers, reusable utensils and straws for delivery and take-out orders, reusable or recyclable packaging, as well as the ecological modernization of equipment.

A maximum grant of $10,000 can be awarded per company, if the application meets all the criteria; it cannot exceed 50% of the total cost of the work or development.

In addition to work that was already eligible, it is now possible to submit a request for promotional efforts. Thus, merchants who have invested in the redesign of their website; the dissemination of advertising in the local media or the distribution of advertising leaflets on the territory, encouraging the return of customers to their premises, are admissible.
