city car with a pinch of suv

DESIGNED IN EUROPE – The Toyota Aygo X Prologue it is a prototype that very closely anticipates the next generation of the Aygo city car. Compared to the one on the list today, everything changes, starting from the mechanics: the platform is the TNGA-B, already used for the Yaris. “Colpo di spugna” also for the design, the result of the ED2 European style center in Nice, which takes inspiration from SUVs and crossovers; a factor that also influences the driving position, which is raised. Among the solutions that should also find a place on the production car, expected next year, we mention the front and rear lights composed of thin LED strips connected in the lower part and the large wheels.

IN THE PROTOTYPE, SPACE FOR FANTASY – The Toyota Aygo X Prologue it also features other distinctive elements, such as hexagonal fog lights, the attachment for a bicycle carrier integrated into the rear bumper and two cameras in the mirrors, to be used to film the route in front of the car. There are also roof bars on the roof (slightly protruding), while the characteristic two-tone paint highlights the front, in red. However, it is difficult for these elements to be re-proposed on the definitive car, which will also have conventional and non-retractable handles. Analyzing the first spy photos (see them who), on the other hand, it is possible to notice how the cut of the rear doors is practically the same as the “pointed” one used for the Aygo X Prologue.

ELECTRIC? NO THANKS – As already officially communicated by Toyota in recent weeks, the new generation of the Toyota Aygo it will not be electric but petrol, in order to contain costs and, therefore, the selling price. However, it has not been clarified whether there will be some form of hybridization, mild or full (the latter already present in the Yaris, but which would lead to a significant increase in the price lists). A choice that goes against the trend compared to many other houses, which for city cars rely solely on batteries. We also remember that the next Aygo will not give life to the “cousins” branded Citroën and Peugeot, as has happened until today with the C1 and 108: the agreement between Toyota and the PSA group (now Stellantis) to produce city cars has ended. .
