The federal and state governments want to extend the existing strict contact restrictions due to the corona crisis at least until the end of the Easter holidays.

She also urged citizens to continue to do without private trips and visits: “Pandemic knows no holidays!”
Overall, Merkel is preparing the Germans that the contact restrictions will remain even longer – a doubling time of 10 days is not enough in any case.

The citizens “remain encouraged to reduce contacts to other people outside of their own household to an absolute minimum according to the applicable rules, even during the Easter holidays,” according to a resolution for the conference call available to the German press agency in Berlin on Wednesday by Chancellor Angela Merkel (65, CDU) with the Prime Ministers of the federal states.
Citizens are therefore asked to “generally refrain from private trips and visits from relatives”. This also applies domestically and for national day trips, the paper goes on to say.
According to this information, the corresponding regulations should initially apply until April 19. In almost all federal states, the Easter holidays of schoolchildren end on this day.
According to dpa information, Merkel warned for the Federal Government and the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) for the heads of state that there should be no discussion about easing the existing measures before Easter.
After the switch, Merkel reportedly wanted to inform the public together with Söder and the Mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher (SPD).
Distribution dynamics are still too high
The draft resolution further states that the dynamics of the spread of the coronavirus in Germany are still too high. “We must therefore continue to do everything we can to slow the rate of infection and to keep our healthcare system functioning.” The number of contacts continues to play a decisive role.
On April 14 – the Tuesday after Easter – they wanted to discuss the situation again. There was also great agreement that there should be no obligation to wear protective masks. It had been made clear that the existing requirements must be adhered to even if one wears such masks.
Merkel: Masks can become virus throwers
This is not surprising. Chancellor Merkel previously warned that a possible mask constraint could lead to excessive carelessness in keeping people apart.
This is still the most important, she said earlier at the cabinet breakfast with the heads of the Union (by counter). Everyone knows that after half an hour a mask is so moist that it becomes a virus thrower itself.
The city of Jena (Thuringia, 108,000 inhabitants) is already introducing a mask requirement: anyone who uses public transport, supermarkets and public buildings must wear mouth and nose protection from Monday onwards (shawls and scarves are also allowed).
