Citizen Prosperity will compete, but without Carlos Pineda

The Citizen Prosperity party, through a press conference, reported this Friday that candidates for deputies from 11 departments will be able to participate in the 2023 general elections, in addition to candidates for mayors. The departments are: Alta Verapaz, Jutiapa, Totonicapán, Sacatepéquez, Izabal, Guatemala, Santa Rosa, Chimaltenango, Escuintla, Quetzaltenango and Huehuetenango.

With this, Carlos Pineda was left out as a candidate for the presidency.

The highest Guatemalan court indicated in its opinion that the appeal is “without place” and, therefore, eliminates the candidacy of the Prosperidad Ciudadana party.

The legal appeal had been personally requested by Pineda before the Constitutional Court, the highest court of Guatemala, on May 20, accompanied by more than 2,000 followers in front of the entity’s facilities, in the center of the country’s capital. central american.
