Cinderella Castle will get a makeover

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo!

Disney announced Monday that Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World in Orlando will get a makeover just in time for the animated classic’s 70th anniversary.

The iconic castle, a 189-foot structure with a fiberglass shell, acts as the hub-slash-top landmark for the rest of the park. The structure also is the iconic image that opens every Disney movie.

Cinderella first transformed into a princess 70 years ago this week when the animated classic was released — and ever since, her courage and kindness have been inspiring guests and cast members alike. We are excited to share that her story has inspired a bold, shimmering and royal makeover of her namesake castle at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort,” Jason Kirk, vice president of Magic Kingdom, announced in the Disney Blog.

What does a “bold, shimmering and royal makeover” look like for Cinderella Castle? An artist rendering released by Disney shows parts of the castle in a light pink shade, royal blue and lots of gold trim.

Artist concept: Cinderella Castle is about to become even more magical with a makeover.

The makeover will begin soon and continue through the summer, but Disney didn’t specify a start date. “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” and “Happily Ever After” will continue, however.

Over the years, Cinderella Castle has had many makeovers, most notably the 25th anniversary — where the castle was made to resemble a birthday cake. In October 2021, Disney World will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
