Cigarette Lighter Has Increased Corona Virus Spread

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Sharing cigarette lighters has the potential to increase the spread of corona virus outbreaks (Covid-19) for smokers.

The spread of the corona virus through cigarette lighters occurs in Australia. Prime Minister Victoria Daniel Andrews revealed that the corona virus case was referring to staff at the Melbourne Stamford Plaza hotel. The hotel also functions as a quarantine hotel for travelers returning from abroad.

Andrews explained that the spread of the virus among hotel workers might have come from staff sharing cigarette lighters because there were no new cases related to travelers.

“To the best of our knowledge, we believe that some of these cases may come from people who share lighters. They have kept their distance, but in the end, shared lighters with others,” Andrews said. Daily Mail, Monday (6/29/2020).

The state of Victoria experienced a second wave of infection after recording the highest surge in corona virus cases in one day for almost three months on Sunday (6/28/2020).

Of the 49 new cases reported, four came from known outbreaks, 26 were detected through routine testing and 19 were being investigated.

In addition, Andrew also mentioned that carpooling, where one car was filled by many people, contributed to the increase in cases of viral infections.

He also announced mandatory testing for travelers from overseas at quarantine hotels, which will be tested twice, first on the third day after arrival and then on the 11th day of the 14-day quarantine period.

“Those who refuse to comply with testing will be asked to remain in quarantine for the next 10 days to ensure they have no risk of bringing the corona virus to the Victoria community,” Andrews said.
