Ciechanw a year ago installed intelligent garbage cans. The effects of exceeding expectations

Last year, an innovative Individual Waste Segregation System (SISO) was implemented at the “Poska” estate in Ciechanów. After one year of the pilot program, it was decided to install 24 new, improved, non-contact devices, which is the best proof of the project’s success.

Intelligent garbage cans made residents segregate their rubbish

The trash cans open after scanning the QR code assigned to the apartment. In the new models, the flaps lift automatically, which ensures greater hygiene in the storage of waste – it is not spread by wind, rodents or birds, and residents of other settlements do not throw their waste away, when they cannot open the containers without the code. Thanks to the monitoring of the blood supply rubbish occurs when the garbage can become full. Not too early and not too late, which allows you to optimize costs and introduce greater order. It also makes it possible for the city to collect information on how much and what waste is generated by the inhabitants. For example, according to the SISO system, the average amount per capita is approx. 210 kg per year – it is over 100 kg less than the data GUS.

The smart garbage can program has had very positive results. For the city, it was cost-free, and after six months it was used by 98%. residents of the estate. The greatest success is to increase the number of people that segregate waste. Before installing intelligent trash cans, less than 10 percent did it, a year after the appearance of intelligent trash cans, this number increased to 90 percent.

More smart trash cans

Ciechanw does not intend to stop there. The city plans to introduce intelligent garbage can also in other housing estates.

Proper segregation of municipal waste in multi-family housing is a great challenge for local governments. Cities should implement effective systems to increase recycling rates, which is helped by selective collection. Otherwise, local governments face multi-million penalties, which the residents will feel in their pockets. We were the first in Poland to provide such a modern solution. We will seek external funds to equip other estates in the city with the same system

– said the president of Ciechanów, Krzysztof Kosiski.
