Chronic Kidney Disease Called the Most Deadly

KORANBERNAS.ID, SEMARANG — Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is still one of the deadliest scourges in the world. One in ten people in the world are listed as a patient after a doctor sentenced them.

“Unfortunately, nine out of ten people realized too late that they were in danger,” said Tony Richard Samosir, Chairperson of the Indonesian Dialysis Patient Community (KPCDI), Friday (11/3/2022).

He explained that those who did not know had kidney failure because of the lack of literacy and education about the dangers and signs of kidney disease

This is a big problem in the world and must be resolved immediately so that more and more people do not fall ill.

Coinciding with World Kidney Day (WKD) which this year falls on Thursday (10/3/2022), real work and collaboration are needed to provide kidney health education for the community.

This year’s theme is Kidney Health for All: Bridging the Knowledge Gap for Better Kidney Health.

As it is known, CKD also has an impact on social life such as limitations in work, travel, education, finances, limited diet, changes in lifestyle and social activities which will result in the patient’s health quality being low because they feel they are useless.

For this reason, communication and education approaches are needed to improve the quality of life of patients, build strength strategies and efforts to manage stress so that they are useful when experiencing difficulties and trauma when starting dialysis.

In addition, it is also necessary to encourage all stakeholders to ensure that discrimination and gaps in the health care system also need to be identified, so that all patients are given the opportunity to have a voice.

Access to good dialysis information will also provide a sense of comfort for the patient. During the pandemic, many chronic kidney patients received discrimination from certain parties.

For example, many chronic kidney patients who suffer from Covid-19 are not accepted by the hospital to undergo the dialysis process. This results in a decrease in quality of life and can threaten the safety of the patient’s life.

The mortality rate of chronic kidney patients exposed to Covid-19 is increasing. This incident is very fatal, because being late for dialysis or dialysis is the same as worsening the quality of health and death is a necessity.

As is known, dialysis is a way to replace kidney function that has been damaged and will never return to health.

Secretary General of KPCDI Petrus Haryanto added that kidney failure can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle keeps people from diabetes and high blood pressure, the two main causes of kidney failure, which lead to dialysis and depend on hemodialysis machines for life.
