Christmas tree in front of Fox News office ablaze: 49-year-old suspect arrested | Abroad

A day after the fire, the fifteen-meter-tall tree with more than 100,000 lights right in front of the Fox office is completely gone. Tonight a new Christmas tree must rise in the same place. According to American media, Fox has had a tree in front of the building on 6th Avenue for three years as a Christmas tradition.

Craig Tamanaha, 49, has been arrested at the scene after he allegedly struck last night. He is suspected of climbing the metal structure around the tree and then setting fire to a pile of newspapers with a lighter. His motive is still unknown. The man has been arrested several times in the past, including for drug possession.

Tamahana also wanted to set fire to another nearby Christmas tree, near Rockefeller Center, but failed. He has since been released without bail, much to the anger of right-wing American media who hold new liberal legislation and Mayor Bill de Blasio responsible.

The scene of the accident attracted the necessary bystanders. “My husband is a huge Fox News fan. I told him that if I was around I would take a picture for him. And now there is no boom,” says a stunned New York tourist.
