Christmas logs and macaroons to encourage blood donation in Geneva

Posted

The cantonal hospital and the blood transfusion center do everything possible to attract blood and platelet donors. Due to holidays and viral diseases, the end of the year is a critical time.

Objective: “1000 Holiday Pockets”. This is the challenge launched by the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG) and by the Transfusion Center until 8 January. With holidays and viral illnesses, the end of the year is a critical time. Donations are becoming rarer and blood supplies are dwindling. For everything to work well you need 50 bags of red blood cells and platelets a week. Demand for the latter also increased by 17%, he reports Blue of Lake Geneva.

Furthermore, a call for solidarity was launched on 5 December. To motivate the population, on 21 December, donors will be offered a tasting of Christmas logs and macaroons prepared by the HUG catering service. Last year, 1,419 boosters were collected during the 1,000 Holiday Booster Campaign.
