Thanks to the “savior of the Christmas lights”, Hattingen can shine again. The lights were switched on this year with the participation of the sponsors, Mayor Dirk Glaser as well as Sandra Glomb and Georg Hartmann from Hattingen Marketing in front of the Old Town Hall on Untermarkt.
The Christmas lighting is the property of Hattingen Marketing, the annual costs for installation, deinstallation and maintenance have so far been financed from the income from the Nostalgic Christmas Market. Due to the cancellation of the Christmas market, the Christmas lighting was also on the brink this year.

At the annual general meeting of the city marketing association, Jörg Waldrich, center manager of the Reschop Carré, spontaneously declared himself ready to provide 2000 euros. Further commitments were immediately made by Eckart Capitain (Gelsenwasser), Daniel Bottle (AVU), Udo Schnieders (Sparkasse Hattingen), Thomas Alexander (Volksbank Sprockhövel), Nadine Achenbach (Auto Smolczyk), Steven Scheiker (Stadtwerke Hattingen) and Jürgen Schwiese (Wir in the Sankt Georgs Viertel) to provide a financial contribution to the implementation of the Christmas lights.
Managing director Georg Hartmann then contacted Elektro Schawacht again and, thanks to the long-term cooperation and the connection to the city, was able to reach an agreement.
So this year, too, the Hattingen city center will be bathed in Christmas lights. Georg Hartmann: “I am pleased that after the painful cancellation of the Nostalgic Christmas Market in Hattingen, with the support of our sponsors, we at least managed to conjure up a little Advent atmosphere in the city. Our slogan ‘Hattingen has shine’ too this year its justification. “
