Thiruvananthapuram ∙ DYFI central committee member Chinta Jerome, who has completed two terms as the youth commission chairman, is stepping down. Instead another central committee member M. Shajar will chair the youth commission. The order will be released the next day. Shajar is the former Kannur district secretary of DYFI and currently a member of the CPM Kannur district committee. The term of the chairman of the commission is three years.
Chinta, who was appointed in 2016 during the first Pinarayi government, was reappointed during the last term of the government. The second term was completed on February 6. Chinta took charge after February on the condition that he could continue till the appointment of a new chairman or for a maximum of six months. Controversy arose over the thinking due to an error in his PhD thesis and a lack of explanation in his demand for a 17-month salary freeze. Chinta said that anti-drug campaign, district level adalats, job fairs, job portal etc. are seen as gains.
