Chinese Navy Detected in Java Sea, What’s Wrong?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Navy China detected in the Java Sea. This is related to a joint exercise conducted with the Indonesian Navy last weekend.

The combat exercise was held to develop the strength of both countries. Quoted South China Morning Post, two Chinese frigates, Liuzhou and Suqian, held joint exercises with KRI Usman Harun and KRI Halasan which is also a fleet of frigates and missile carriers.

Mei Guoqiang, who heads the Chinese Navy Southern Command’s offshore training formation team, told: PLA Daily that the exercise will enhance both sides’ ability to maintain regional peace.

“These exercises help improve coordination between warships, deepen professional communication, increase mutual trust and cooperation, and jointly demonstrate practical actions to maintain regional peace and stability,” he was quoted as saying Monday (10/5/2021).

According to China’s Ministry of Defense, the exercise is part of the country’s marines’ annual agenda. The exercise was held after Beijing announced it would send three rescue boats to assist in the removal of the KRI Nanggala 402 submarine wreck.

KRI Nanggala 402 drowned in the waters of the Bali Sea some time ago. A total of 53 crew members were killed. One of the ships sent by China is known to be able to dive to a depth of 10 thousand meters.

CNBC Indonesia still contact a number of parties, including the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia to request comment.

The relationship between Indonesia and China is quite harmonious, even though it has been tense several times. Indonesia once protested China about maritime territory, regarding the entry of Chinese ships in North Natuna.

Chinese coast guard vessels have been seen several times in the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea (LCS). China itself considers that this area is a traditional fishing area for its fishermen.
