The attacks began on Wednesday when state broadcaster CCTV warned that Chinese buyers would “vote with their feet and boycott unrestrained companies”, saying the Swedish clothing manufacturer H&M.
Its products have already disappeared from online stores, and calls for a boycott of the company have spread around the web.
H&M announced last year that it would stop buying cotton from China’s Xinjiang region, where most Chinese Uighurs live and where forced labor camps have been set up.

The EU on Monday imposed sanctions on four Chinese officials and one organization in connection with Beijing’s crackdown on the Uighur minority.

The EU has been followed by the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, which have imposed sanctions.
In response to EU sanctions, China has imposed its sanctions on EU politicians, experts and institutions.
In recent years, several hundred Uighurs, Kazakhs and Hueis have testified that they were imprisoned in internment camps in Xinjiang province as part of the government’s campaign for the forced assimilation of ethnic minorities.
The Chinese government explains that these camps, which have housed more than a million people since 2017, are in fact “vocational training centers” and aim to eradicate extremism and terrorism.
