Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated newly elected US President Joe Biden on Wednesday. Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan congratulated upcoming Vice President Kamala Harris.

China was reticent after the US presidential elections, although the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs already sent congratulations a week after the winner was declared.

President Xi now personally congratulates Biden on winning the election, according to the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.

In a telegram, Xi said the countries should continue the relationship “without conflict or confrontation, with mutual respect and the spirit of win-win cooperation” in order to promote the “noble cause” of world peace and development.

Incumbent President Donald Trump refuses to admit defeat and recognize Biden as the winner of the Nov. 3 election. According to him, there has been widespread fraud, but he has not substantiated it. Many countries, including the Netherlands, have already congratulated the Democrat Biden.
