BEIJING, iNews.id – Contestants run cross country di Provinsi Gansu, China, who died as a result of extreme weather attacks on Saturday (22/5/2021), increased to 21 people.
The 100 kilometer long cross country turned into havoc after its location in a fringing mountain forest Yellow RiverSome of them entered the Baiyin administration area, hit by rain and cold weather.
The start started on Saturday morning from the tourist site on the banks of the Yellow River, then participants went through the canyon and explored the hills at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters above sea level (masl).
A total of 172 participants wore only T-shirts and shorts, while the weather conditions were already cloudy.
During the day some of the route is subject to rain, ice and strong winds. The temperature also dropped dramatically. The participants fell on a steep, arid route.
A massive rescue effort was carried out involving more than 1,200 officers as well as a heat detector drone to detect the whereabouts of the participants. Rescue workers face problems with landslides following heavy rains.
Until Sunday morning, 151 participants had been successfully evacuated, runner the last missing one was found lifeless at 09.30 local time.
This disaster drew concern and criticism from netizens. Because the weather at the location of the race was predicted to be unfriendly, but the committee still held it.
