Chinese Companies Ban Employees from Bringing iPhones to Work: Government Supported Directive Sparks Controversy

Beijing: Chinese companies are asking their employees not to bring iPhones to work. Many companies and state departments in eight Chinese provinces have given instructions to employees. It is recommended to use phones manufactured by local brands during work.

This is part of a move to reduce dependence on technology from other countries. Chinese agencies and government-supported companies in the provinces of Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shaanxi, Shandong, Liaoning and Central Hebei issued the new directive. Central Hebei is home to the largest iPhone factory in the world.

According to a Reuters report, employees of at least three ministries and government agencies are currently being asked not to use iPhones at work. China’s new move is part of an effort to encourage domestic companies, including Huawei. Recently, government institutions in the country have instructed to use local software.
