Pontianak

The shards of space junk belonging to China could be seen in the sky Lampung. The space debris apparently fell in Sanggau, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan).

A researcher in the field of astronomy/astrophysics from the BRIN Space Research Center, Rhorom Priyatikanto, confirmed that the space debris fell in West Kalimantan. The debris came from China’s Long March 5B rocket.

“Right,” said Rhorom to detik.com, Monday (1/8/2022). Rhorom answered reporters’ questions whether or not China’s Long March 5B rocket crashed in West Kalimantan.

Rhorom said the location and time of the crash corresponded to the rocket’s final trajectory.

“We are quite sure that the object found is part of the Long March 5B rocket. However, we have not received physical confirmation such as labels or other indications,” said Rhorom.

He explained that the rocket fell on the plains of Sanggau. However, there were no significant losses.

“According to the information we received, the debris fell on privately owned fields, but did not cause any significant damage,” he continued.

Previously, the space debris was seen in the sky of Lampung. In a TikTok video uploaded to an account, a red celestial object appears to be floating in the sky.

In addition, there are some netizens who associate this phenomenon with the Night of One Suro or the Hijri New Year. There are also those who suspect the object as a meteor.
