/ world today news/ The Chinese construction company CITIC Construction completed on Saturday the construction of the last 84 kilometers of the East-West highway in Algeria, connecting 17 provinces in the country. It stretches from Drean in the easternmost province of El Tarf to the town of Raml Souk, bordering Tunisia.
At the opening ceremony held in El Tarf, Algerian Prime Minister Aymen Ben Abderrahman hailed the strategic importance of the highway to greatly facilitate travel and promote economic exchange between Algeria and Tunisia. Praising the “exceptional quality of the work”, he added that Algerian engineers and technicians had gained valuable practical experience in the construction of the highway.
Within the implementation of the entire project, CITIC Construction established a management institute and a national quality control center, trained thousands of Algerian technicians and supported community initiatives, including participation in social activities such as donations to needy families during the holy month of Ramadan, construction of fire barriers and flood relief, the company said in a statement.
