FUZHOU, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) — A 16-megawatt China-developed offshore wind turbine off the coast of eastern Fujian Province set a new world record for generating electricity per unit in one day last Friday, according to the turbine operator.
The wind turbine, operated by the China Three Gorges Corporation, operated at maximum capacity for generating electricity 24 hours a day and achieved a daily electricity production of 384,100 kilowatt-hours.
The company said the turbine, which is known for its highest capacity, largest rotor size and lightest weight per megawatt in the world, is expected to generate more than 66 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.
The turbine has been connected to the electricity grid and has been generating electricity since July 19, after it was installed in late June.
