China: “No more corona patients in Wuhan hospitals” | NOW

In the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the corona virus first appeared, no more corona patients would be hospitalized. A health official said at a press conference on Sunday.

“The latest news is that the number of new corona patients has fallen to zero since April 26,” said a spokesperson for the National Health Commission.

“That’s thanks to the commitment of Wuhan himself and medical personnel from across the country,” he added.

Wuhan is seen as the starting place of the pandemic. COVID-19 broke out in December 2019. The metropolis in Hubei province was closed at the end of January. Roads were closed, flying was impossible, and civilians were barely allowed to be outdoors. The lockdown was lifted on April 8.

Despite the relief of the measures, the city is still subject to intensive testing for the corona virus.

Wuhan has more than half of Chinese infections

According to Chinese figures, 46,452 cases of contamination have been identified in Wuhan. That equates to 56 percent of the national number of infections. The city has 3,869 deceased corona patients.

China is now focusing more on the border province of Heilongjiang, where many cases can be traced to people who have become infected in Russia. Eleven more new infections were reported across China on Saturday. Friday there were twelve. No new deaths were recorded.
