China has issued guidelines to promote the integration of industry and education in the vocational education sector, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

The country will create and cultivate more than 10,000 enterprises focusing on the integration of industry and education. It will also ensure that industrial needs are better integrated into the staff training process, according to guidelines jointly released on Tuesday by NDRC and seven other departments.

China will prioritize the development of innovative industries in advanced manufacturing, new energy, new materials, biotechnology and artificial intelligence, according to the document.

By 2025, there will be about 50 pilot cities nationwide focused on industry-education integration, according to the document.

Industry-education integration in vocational education plays an important role in building a modern industrial system and supporting China’s modernization through quality people development, NDRC said.
