China, how what we call the green pass works here

by Gianluigi Perrone *

As is known, in Asia, starting with the very democratic Taiwan, the application that checks the health status of users with respect to Covid-19 was adopted from the very first epidemic signs. How does the application work in China we have already explained it in another post, but let’s do a little summary.

The application does not track the movements of the owner of the mobile phone, which is instead a function of the mobile phone itself, be it an old model or a smartphone. The application informs if the user has been in areas considered at risk, the so-called red zones, in the last 14 days (21 for Beijing). In this case an alarm sounds. To do the check you need to scan a QR-code which is located at the entrance of every commercial activity (in particular shopping centers). In the event that cases of infected persons have been found within the commercial activity (and therefore the check at the entrance has not been carried out), it will have to close for an indefinite period for health checks, as it presumably has become a potential outbreak.

This prompts managers to actually carry out these entry checks. Otherwise a commercial imbalance would be created between those who choose to carry out the checks and those who do not, since the activities that require the control would easily be disadvantaged compared to those who decide to avoid it, allowing entry to both green and red customers, bearing only the health risk but not the commercial one. This ensures that it is convenient for all parties to have control of the medical situation.

In some areas, such as Hangzhou, where there have been new outbreaks, the system is closer all’idea del green pass European by dividing the city into areas where it will be possible to access if there is a need to do 14 days of quarantine (red), 7 days (yellow, with the possibility of mobility in some areas), or green, or free passage to each area.

The application, Beijing HealthKit and Green Arrow, for those who live in the capital, also contains the vaccination status, and will shortly allow you to collect (for the fee of about 7 euros) the vaccination passport which is a paper document similar to the identity card, but yellow in color (see photo). This will make it possible to travel in the future locally and internationally even without the quarantine, although the methods of its use have not yet been confirmed.

In practice, no one is forced to do anything but he proposed and not properly imposed a system whereby it is convenient to regulate oneself in order to move safely and not to invade the freedom of others. Xinhuanet states that 90% of residents a Beijing is vaccinated, Sinovac or Sinopharm, considered much milder than Western vaccines, but the country is still far from complete immunity.
