China Finally Congratulates Biden and Harris

The congratulations were given a week after Biden gathered enough votes to win. US President Donald Trump has yet to acknowledge Biden’s victory and is still filing lawsuits.

“We respect the choices of the American people. We congratulate Biden and Harris, ”said Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) spokesman Wang Wenbin during a routine press conference.

Trump’s refusal to accept defeat has placed Beijing in an awkward position. China is reluctant to do anything to antagonize Trump, who has filed a court suit against the election results. Relations between China and the United States are at their worst in decades due to disputes ranging from technology and trade to Hong Kong and the coronavirus. Shortly after Biden’s victory, many US alliances congratulated him, while Chinese and Russian leaders put off congratulations.
