However, researcher from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Collin Koh, considers the plane rescue operation as described by Schuster could trigger a diplomatic row.
“I’m not sure China wants to do that. However, maybe China will still be shadowing, circling and monitoring if the US carries out a rescue operation for the jet,” Koh said.
Currently, the US is working on transporting the downed F-35 jet.
The F-35 jet crashed while being used for routine training. Initially, the jet was supposed to land on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, which was sailing in the South China Sea. However, the landing process did not go smoothly and the jet crashed into the sea.
As a result of this incident, seven marines were injured. Three of the seven injured marines were evacuated to Manila, Philippines, for treatment. Meanwhile, four other marines remain in care on the USS Carl Vinson.
