Football players of the national team are banned from getting new tattoos. Players who already have tattoos are asked to have them removed or cover them up initially.
Clubs are also being asked to stop attracting tattooed players.
Tattoos have a negative reputation in China, but in recent years they have made a breakthrough in large cities and especially among the younger generation.
The Chinese government has been increasing its influence on youth for several months now. It has already taken measures in sectors such as music, online gaming and reality TV.
China says it would like to get a better grip on the youth and try to limit “the moral decline from abroad”.
