China announces military maneuvers in Taiwan Strait for Saturday

Amid tensions between China and the United States, Beijing wants to conduct military maneuvers at sea on Saturday – including with live ammunition.

China has announced military maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait for Saturday, during which live ammunition will also be used. Live ammunition will be fired between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. during the maneuver in the strait, according to a government statement in Beijing released by state media on Friday. Entry into the waters is prohibited during this time.

Die Taiwanstraßealso known as the Strait of Formosa, is the 180-kilometer-wide strait between the Chinese province of Fujian to the west and the island of Taiwan to the east, connecting the East China Sea to the north and the South China Sea to the south.
