Children Dying of Hunger in Gaza: Urgent Call for Aid and Ceasefire

Children are dying of hunger in Gaza. It is totally unacceptable.

It is disheartening to receive the news of increasingly worse conditions in Gaza.

Children die from malnutrition. The WHO announced at the weekend that ten children are said to have died from a lack of food in hospitals in northern Gaza.

If many in this country have a feeling of powerlessness, it is worse in the hospitals in Gaza.

But some have the power to prevent children from dying from lack of food. Containers with life-saving contents are ready at the border, a few kilometers away from where the need is greatest.

Explanations for why the emergency aid does not reach those who need it are rife. But both parties, both Israel and Hamas, are responsible for the suffering we are witnessing.

The fact that the US has resorted to airdrops to get food in is a sign of how desperate the situation is: Airdrops are an extremely ineffective way of providing emergency aid.

Emergency aid does not reach those who desperately need it.

The only thing that can really help the situation is a truce between the two parties. They have to relax their invariable demands, which are now preventing a necessary pause in the warfare.

Israel must stop the excessive use of force. Hamas must release the remaining hostages. To mention something.

The US can rightly be criticized for not having put greater pressure on Israel before. Now there are more and more signals that patience is over.

On Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris described the situation in Gaza as a humanitarian disaster, which Israel is not doing enough to stop. She demanded an immediate ceasefire.

It is in particular Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the American authorities have lost confidence in. It was another member of Israel’s war cabinet, Benny Gantz, who was invited to talks in Washington this week.

Because Netanyahu is clearly not listening, and his narcissistic rule is harmful to Israel.

Hamas, for its part, is doing far from everything it can to ensure the Palestinians the help they need. The well-being of the Palestinians is obviously subordinate to the extremist political goals of Hamas.

Those with whom Israel is negotiating a ceasefire were behind a brutal terrorist attack. The documentation of the gross assaults that were committed on 7 October last year is getting stronger.

It is hoped that an increasingly harsh tone from Washington will help.

But the situation in the Gaza Strip is becoming more acute with each passing day.

Negotiations on a ceasefire are dragging on.

In the meantime, Israel now has a special responsibility to ensure that more emergency aid arrives.
