Child Protection Association rejects random scanning of encrypted communication

Berlin: The German Child Protection Association considers an intervention in encrypted communication in the fight against child pornography to be unnecessary. Board member Türk described the unprovoked scanning of private communication via messenger or e-mail planned by the EU Commission as disproportionate and not effective. The majority of child pornographic material is shared via platforms and forums. According to Türk, random scans are correct here. The EU Commission intends to present its legislative proposal in the middle of next week. Civil rights activists fear a far-reaching interference with people’s private communications.
