Child Deaths Lead to Recalls of Millions of Toys Sold at Walmart and Amazon

WASHINGTON DC – The federal government on Thursday called for a recall of more than 3.2 million “Calico Critters” toys because they pose a choking hazard to children.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer Epoch Everlasting Playof Pine Brook, New Jersey, jointly made the announcement.

Both are calling for the recall of toys that look like small bottles and pacifiers for a set of teddy bears.

The company “is aware of three incidents involving pacifier accessories in which two deaths occurred.” One of the victims was a 2-year-old boy who died in 2018 in New Mexico, and the other a 9-month-old baby who died in Japan, according to the commission.

Most of the toys were sold at Walmart, Meijer, the manufacturer’s website, and Amazon.

“If they have any bottle or pacifier attachments, please immediately remove them from children,” the company said in a statement.

The products within this recall were sold between 2000 and 2001.
